A bit of Highway 16 will be shut down all of Wednesday (February 7) night and could remain that route well into Thursday (February 8) morning.
DriveBC says the torrential slide hazard has imposed the closure
of more than 90 kilometers of the highway starting 13 kilometers east of Prince
Rupert and closure 35 kilometers west of Terrace.
The closure is anticipated to last until 2 p.m. PT Thursday.
Authorities are cautioning drivers on Highway 16 from Prince
George to Smithers about low visibility conditions because of snowfall. They
are recommending to avoid driving highway if you don’t have to.
For the last few days parts of B.C's. Interior have been hit
hard by snowfall causing snow cleaning and removal to be a challenging task.
We advise you not to hit the road if its not absolutely necessary,
there are risky highway conditions at this time. Authorities are doing their
best to keep the highways safe and clean of snow, but some areas might be hard
to reach.
Do your part and prepare yourself for harsh winterconditions, keep your distance in between vehicles and keep in touch with the
weather forecast on the locations where you are heading.
